Syllabus outline:

  1. Developments in the methodology of economic research – build upon Research Methods 1 to consider more advanced issues in critical realism, postmodernism and other post-positivist methodologies; the role of specific methods under the different perspectives; triangulation as an epistemological position
  2. Quantitative analysis – further issues; elaboration of analysis in Research Methods 1; regression analysis; censored variable regression analysis; principal component analysis; content analysis; survey design and analysis; panel data analysis; analysis of data using computer packages such as STATA or Limdep.

Teaching and learning methods:

A variety of methods will be used to deliver the module. Some sessions will deliver material as in a lecture, but other sessions will be seminars and workshops intended to reinforce lecture material and to employ research skills. Workshops will often make use of electronic resources.
